IMRADIO: musicians start their own radio station
Over the past few months, an underground movement of musicians in
Chicago
has united thousands of artists from over fifty countries to start a new radio station on the Internet at IMRadio.com. Any artist in the world can upload an original song for free airplay on IMRadio. Because it is open source radio, the station has attracted an audience and received much recognition from music industry scouts.
Recently, seven independent artists signed contracts with two major promoters in
New York
and
London
because of IMRadio exposure. Another artist, CiJay, from
Richmond, Virginia
received a recording contract from Serenia Records. This type of exposure is just the thing that musicians are looking for.
IMRadio stands for “independent musician” radio, and it plays the music of local bands from thousands of cities worldwide. Rock bands performing in English pubs appear on the Rock, the , and the UK/Rock stations. Blues singers from
Chicago
, country performers from
Texas
, metal bands from , and thousands of other combinations perform on IMRadio.
IMRadio is a station where both artists and listeners can interact, review songs, enter contests, add to forums and blogs, and place a widget on their home page to share their music with their fans. Artists receive a profile page where they can communicate with their local fans, meet music industry people, and introduce themselves to a worldwide audience. It is also a great place for artists to promote their upcoming concerts.
IMRadio attracts all types of music too. Over 40 genres, from acoustic to rock, are represented. Founder, Paddy Noonan, says; “You can listen to bands from or , singers from
Athens
or
Nashville
, and even rappers from
Montana
. These are the bands that the suits at traditional radio stations don’t give a chance. With us, every artist, singer, songwriter, band, poet, and comedian gets free airplay on IMRadio.”
The station’s audience is growing and attracts listeners from over 100 countries who look for new music from independent bands. Says Paddy Noonan; “I love hearing new songs on the radio, learning more about musicians, and eventually going to see their concerts. That’s why we started IMRadio. We’re a radio station by musicians for musicians.”
