As masters of intergalactic space rap,
The Space Chimps provide a rare breed
of hip-hop music. Balanced throughout
their debut album Walkin' Upright, is
a combination of catchy, upbeat, fun,
relatable, passionate production and
lyrics that are uncommon in today's
rap music. Most people call it
"alternative hip-hop" because absent
are the negative and degrading lyrics
that are a staple in modern hip-hop.
The group resides in the suburbs of
Kansas City. Although the music is
primarily hip-hop, the production
leans on live instruments such as
acoustic guitar, drums, and bass.
Vocals are often humorous, uplifting
and passionate. Singing, fun and
satire are a staple of this groups
lyrics. Gigs and shows are played this
way as well. Live instrumentation in
hip-hop music is unique in itself.
