Every once and a while, there is an
entertainer born who can cross gender,
racial and any other type of line
there is; and on November 8, 1992 in
Harlem, NY, Lindel “Deon” Nelson
a.k.a. Young Deon was born to do just
that.As an only child being raised in
a single parent household, Deon was
taught that excellence was not an
accident, but that it happened on
purpose. It was instilled in him that
despite being raised in an
economically challenged area, a good
work ethic, determination and the
desire to excel would take him far.
By age six, Deon and those around him,
began to realize that he possessed a
voice that could touch people to the
core and resonate through the soul.
His mother realized that she had a
child prodigy on her hands and began
letting him perform in the church
choir. The news of his talent quickly
spread and Deon was requested to sing
at parties, school and local talent
shows, as well as family events. Deon
continued to perform as a singer
through out his childhood, but started
to become interested in rap music
around age 12. During impromptu
lunchtime rap battles, Deon realized
that he had a natural inclination
towards freestyling, as lines and
lyrics came easily to him. He loved
beating the competition with his rap
prowess and then wooing the ladies
with his golden voice. Deon continues
to successfully dominate the
competition in both areas.
In 2007, Deon began to showcase his
talent to the public by using
networking websites, such as Myspace
and Youtube. Deon soon became a
familiar face, tallying over 700,000
youtube views. He also began to record
and put out songs which led to him
meeting his mentor, Vito “Young Don”
Carswell. Together, the two of them
had things buzzing in the tri-state
area and were known as Stadium Status.
Deon has an eclectic taste in music
and enjoys listening to and creating
music of all genres, refusing to be
categorized. He has penned songs and
collaborated with a diverse group of
artists including Jim Jones, Cassie
and new YouTube pop sensation Jenna
Rose; writing the smash hit “My
Jeans”, which has garnered over 15
million plays. His newest single “Just
Another Love Song” has a huge
underground following. Those in the
know, have been requesting it from
DJ’s and various radio stations across
the country, causing it to become a
part of the rotation in more than one
city…and this is before it has been
officially released. The 18 year old
triple threat has been busy in the
recording studio working on his debut
mixtape tentatively called “For the
Love”, due to be released in the late
fall of 2011.
