About Us:
The Alchemy Unit was formed in 2004 by
guitarist and songwriter, Ash Umhey.
Things began to take shape with the
release of the Moon Strings on the
Fringe album in 2006. The following
year, work began on a new album at
Sterling Street Studios, a private
rehearsal and recording space in
Kingston, NY. These sessions would
span three years, and the album
entitled Eprouvette Ascenseur features
23 tracks. Although the lineup would
continue to shift, by 2009 a full live
band had emerged, and began performing
shows including the Rock the Resort
festival headlined by KRS-One, DJ
Logic, Soulive, and New Riders of the
Purple Sage. Recording sessions and
rehearsals then moved to the Seven 21
Media Center. A spin-off project
called Plush Crustaceans formed in
2010 as a vehicle for further
experimentation and the avant garde.
Ash has also been recording and
performing with Venture Lift, Les
Bicyclettes Blanches, and various
other artists in the Hudson Valley,
New York, and Paris. The Alchemy Unit
is currently writing and recording new
material for an upcoming third album,
and seeking additional musicians for
live shows.
