Candle's Information

About Us:
Candle is something that needs to be experienced. The music of Candle has been described as Progressive, Psychadelic, Space Rock, and even Experimental. But what Darby, the artist behind the sounds, is really trying to achieve is a connection with every listener. To make those who choose to listen to his music feel something deep within themselves. Something they might not have ever felt before. Or maybe some memory they cherish deeply. The frequencies and moods created with a single guitar are layered in order to paint vistas which hopefully will let the sensations & imaginations of the listeners rejoice in the experience and become an interactive part of the music itself. So close your eyes, take a deep breath & relax. Let the music touch your soul.

News From The Shadows…

Greetings from the Shadows, Well, I have been on a bit of a hiatus these last few months concentrating on my creative writting. But I got curious in mid-february about how this year's Februaru Album Writting Month was going & dropped by to check out how all those creative FAWMers were doing. At the very least, it inspired me to write a few songs as well as return my creative energies to my music. If you are interested in hearing the meagre fruits of my FAWM 2011 labours (only four songs this year - one of which is a Cover/Parody), you can check them out on my FAWM page: Sign up & give me some comments while you're listening as well as check out the thousands of hours of great music created within the Month of February by artists around the world. But the big news is that I have finally fixed the technical issues that were preventing me from fully releasing Chromatics. As of this morning, my fourth studio album (and result of FAWM 2010) is now available for purchase from my ReverbNation Store. Goto to be one of the first to add a copy of Chromatics to your CD collection. Meanwhile, I am working on doing additional artwork for my previous three studio albums so that I can re-release them & make them available on my ReverbNation Store. Currently, they are only available to listen to or download from my Bandcamp Page: You can also download the free recording of my Chromatics CD Release gig at HoJoe Coffee & Books in Kenora last September to hear how some of these songs translate into a live performance. That's about it for now. Thank you everyone for the ongoing support & great comments. Hopefully I will be a little more consistent with my updates in the future. See You In The Shadows…

A sonic journey through mind and space you will not forget! The Experience that is Candle returns with the new album, Chromatics. Originally recorded as part of the 2010 February Album Writing Month challenge, the fourteen songs of Chromatics were written & recorded in twenty eight days. “This is something else! So easy to fall between the layers. There is the perception of both denseness and space as I listen.” - Debs, F.A.W.M. Comment; Candle has been the solo project of Darby Spicer since 1996, when he first started recording experimental and ambient rock music using his guitar and a few keyboards. Since that time, Darby has continued to experiment with sounds as well as playing techniques in order to create sonic vistas that allow the listener to truly experience the music. Based in Keewatin, Ontario, Canada - Candle has performed in coffee houses, bars, Canada Day celebrations and on television. The unique style and methodology of the music has drawn curious listeners from all over the world and turned them into fans. Chromatics is a concept album built around the idea of the musical chromatic scale. Each song on the album is written in a different key with the order progressing along the length of the chromatic scale itself. Even the song titles reflect this concept as each one uses the note names of the scale for their own nomenclature. The majority of the songs were recorded “live to tape” in one take without the use of overdubs added in post production It is this “live to tape” method that Darby has used as his primary mode of recording since 2005. Live performances of Chromatics material, as well as older Candle songs are planned for the remainder of 2010. The song Delicate Shame will also be featured on the upcoming Songs For Our Scene compilation set to be released in the later half of 2010. credits released 16 August 2010 Darby Spicer: Guitar, Slide, Keyboards, Soft Synths, Vocals.

TELL EVERY ONE ABOUT IMRadio -- Got to thinking. What if each of us independent musicians told our family, friends, fans and acquaintances about, how besides the main stations, it has stations for each of the states individually, 75 countries, and just about every musical genre -- reaching any internet connection around the world. We could tell them in person, on the internet or at small or large venues. Anyone we tell would appreciate the convenience of such good music from independent musicians on their computer. It would be such a good way to help all of us reach even more listeners. With IMRadio, we aren't just waiting at the mercy of some major label to decide whether or not they will let us be heard around the world. There are enough of us that the outreach could be exponential. And, wouldn't it be a great way to say 'thank you' to Paddy and all of the other fine folks who have put on the world's musical map. They have put in money, time, energy and dedication, and all they have asked of us in return is to upload our music and profile. I am sure that they have great plans to publicize IMRadio and bring it to even more listeners. In the meantime, though, wouldn't it be great if we could all help a little by just taking a little time each day to tell family, friends, fans and acquaintances about IMRadio. It wouldn't cost a dime, just a little time. Yours, in Musical Solidarity, Paul.
