What Ichabod Crane was to Sleepy Hollow, JD Richards was to Galveston Island. For 10 years he was the Poet Laureate of the island, writing and performing his songs about life, in, and around Galveston . His weekly performances at the Captain’s Table, Novo’s (formerly Shelley’s), and many other island locations were packed by friends who gathered frequent listener mileage and knew many of JD’s songs by heart. Richards was born in Beaumont , Texas and had fronted rock bands in the late 1960s and he’d been a staff songwriter in Nashville in the 1980s. After returning to Texas July 1998 by the grace of divorce, JD adopted Galveston as his hometown and began to write prolificly and released a series of original CDs. OMG. I did a search on yahoo.com on JD Richards to see if my recent efforts were doing any good. 2 years ago it was a page and 1/2. I typed me in and did a double take at the 10 pages of links. My wife had found a link to Lone Star 92.5 in Dallas and I had uploaded 5 tunes and 5 vidos. Now I'm getting airplay here and there around the country and emails about my songs left and right. Even heard one of my songs at 3 different sites. Thank you Valerie and all my friends who listen. jd
